Loadcast or WHOOP if you run and lift?

WHOOP is a screen-free band you wear around the clock, and it says it measures strain and recovery and gives you personalized coaching. Loadcast decides each day from the sessions you logged, and it counts a leg day as load on the same legs you run on.

Last checked 14 October 2026. We make Loadcast, so read our lines with that in mind.

By Ole Fiegenbaum, founder of Loadcast. Before the app, Ole's triathlon training ran through one ChatGPT chat. More on the landing page.

How this page was made: our lines come from how the Loadcast engine works. Each claim about another app that has a source link was read on that app's own page, on the date shown under it. The rest is our judgment. The text was written with AI help.

Loadcast

Loadcast is a coach for strength and endurance. Each day it decides what you train today, from the sessions you logged and how they felt.

How does each one adapt?

WHOOP

On recovery, WHOOP says: "WHOOP calculates your recovery on a scale of 0 to 100% during your sleep, looking at your heart rate variability (HRV), resting heart rate, respiratory rate, SpO2, sleep performance, and skin temperature to see how your body is adapting to physiological and psychological stress."

Loadcast

When your recent sessions felt tough, Loadcast turns the day down. It says "Recent sessions felt tough. Today dials back to keep you in the growth zone."

How does lifting fit in?

WHOOP

On strain, WHOOP says: "WHOOP calculates the exertion you put on your body on a scale of 0 to 21. The score measures both cardiovascular and muscular load". The text we read does not say how a gym session is logged.

Loadcast

Loadcast reads a leg day as load on your legs. The day after a leg day it says "Your leg day is still in your legs, so no hard intervals today."

Which phone and watch does each one work with?

WHOOP

WHOOP is its own band: "A screen-free design means no pings, distractions, or unnecessary bells & whistles." It says it is "Built to be worn 24/7". The text we read does not say which phones it works with.
